UV

UV

Project Summary

We built a robot to study the UV absorption of various sunscreens.

Project Description

This project is a study of the UV absorption of various sunscreens. A plastic wrap is suspended horizontally on an apparatus over the area where a robot with a Vernier UV Sensor can move. There are 5 positions along the track the robot moves. One position has no plastic wrap, one has plastic wrap with no sunscreen, and the other positions have a thin layer of sunscreen with SPF 2, 4, or 8 smeared on. The NXT moves with the UV sensor pointed upward, and it plays a tone with frequency proportional to the intensity of the UV radiation. In the end, the robot compares the UV levels under different sunscreens and moves into the position with the lowest UV level to shield itself.
